Named after the 200 year old building the company lives within, The Old Forge have been hand making beautiful home and garden furniture since 1991. Celebrating the concept of ‘Hygge’, the Danish culture of being cosy and comfortable, The Old Forge recently opened a café space where customers could relax with a coffee roasted by Cast Iron Roasters, whilst browsing their furniture selection. We recently sat down with Jonathan from The Old Forge to learn more about the business, where they operate near Lewes and also why they decided to purchase a La Marzocco Linea Classic.
“As the name suggests, the building is an old forge, over 200 years old. The building is home to our furniture and homeware business and the coffee lounge has been opened to very much compliment that. Hygge is included in our trading name (Forge Hygge Coffee Lounge) and that has definitely set the tone for the look and feel of the place. You may have heard of hygge, a Danish word that is the essence of what we are aiming for. For us it is all about people connecting with each other in a convivial and comfortable environment, taking time to enjoy that very moment. Enjoying healthy food and drinks, locally sourced and served with respect and care.
A friend of ours heavily recommended a Linea Classic when we were considering which machine to choose. We got in touch with Guy at Cast Iron Roasters who was a massive help and again recommended the Linea Classic as the best choice. We also love the styling and the fact that it is a tried and tested design. Our Linea Classic was installed in mid September 2018 just before we opened on the 25th. We love it! It is a vital part of our team and is not just considered as a nice piece of equipment. As a result it gets very well looked after!
The business is situated in a village a few miles from Lewes and there is nothing like it in the area! Lewes itself has a strong presence of independent retailers including food and drink outlets and we are blessed that many of the small suppliers that serve the much bigger Brighton market are situated in the outlying villages and therefore close to us! Certainly there are many more coffee shops in Lewes than there were 5 years but the local customers as well as those passing through tell us often how pleased they are to have something like this in the area, without having to travel into town with all the hassles of parking!”
Come back next week for another #lifetimeofthelinea blog post!
